need เป็น modal /anomalous verbs ค่ะ
ขออนุญาตอธิบายตามแบบฉบับของคุณครูนะคะ
ขอเรียกกิริยาเหล่านี้ว่า กิริยาพิเศษที่สามารถนำไปทำเป็นประโยคคำถามและปฏิเสธได้เหมือนกลุ่ม auxiliary verbsหรือ verb to do/be/have ค่ะ
need + base form (กิริยาไม่ผัน) ปกติจะปรากฎในประโยคปฏิเสธหรือกึ่งปฏิเสธค่ะ
: He needn't tell him - he already knows.(ปฏิเสธ)
: If we feel love is going to be lost,we need only learn how to give more and take less.(กึ่งปฏิเสธ)
(มีความหมายโดยนัยว่า
We needn't do more than learn how to give more and take less.)
หรือในประโยคคำถาม
: Need we fill in this application form?
แต่ถ้าเป็นประโยคบอกเล่าควรใช้ need ในรูปของกิริยาหลักซึ่งผันตามประธานค่ะ
: She needs to tell all the truth.
